Local Fly-Fishing Club Holds Fundraiser for Casting for Recovery 

The Historic Ocean Springs Saltwater Fly-fishing (HOSSFly) Club Annual banquet and first fundraiser was held on January 19th, 2008 to raise funds for Casting for Recovery (CFR).  For those who are not familiar with this organization, CFR is a national non-profit support and educational program for women who have or have had breast cancer.  They provide an opportunity for women whose lives have been profoundly affected by the disease to gather in a beautiful, natural setting and learn fly-fishing, "a sport for life." Just as importantly, they offer an opportunity to meet new friends and have fun.  Their weekend retreats incorporate counseling, educational services and the sport of fly-fishing to promote mental and physical healing. Forty-one HOSSFly members and several local businesses donated items to this fundraiser. Our members participated in a silent auction during our annual banquet and raised $2240.  The Orvis Company, Inc. has offered a challenge match grant, which will double the result to Casting for Recovery to $4480.  We wish to thank our generous HOSSFly members, local businesses and The Orvis Company, Inc. for their support of this effort.  We also would like to wish for a cure and the lack of a need for Casting for Recovery.  Until that day we applaud their efforts to bring peace and healing to patients suffering from the profound affects of breast cancer.
